We began in Arcata, CA and drove to Eureka, then across the Samoa bridge to Woodley Island and out to the
Samoa Sand Dunes State Park. ATV's are very popular and they can ride among the old WW2 ammunition dumps

The next stop was the old city of Eureka and the gorgeous Victorians. The Carson mansion on the left is now a private club

Even the smaller Victorians are attractive. Then on to Oregon
where the rest stops, like above, are often beautiful

The weather was gloomy but the beach at Harris Beach State Park was fun to walk. Val really enjoyed being free

Water action has produced interesting rock features

We enjoyed walking the paths of this state park

Next stop Sunset Bay State Park.

Next door, Simpson's Reef was filled with seals and sea lions

Our beach at Sunset Bay also had its visitors as well as interesting driftwood

Speaking of driftwood, our next stop, Beverly Beach State Park, was filled with driftwood and people.
On our way north we passed, among others, the Pigeon Point Lighthouse

On passing through Tillamook, Oregon we stopped to tour the cheese factory. It was also very crowded.
Then on to Fort Stevens State Park. This area is called the "Graveyard of the Pacific" and has many wrecks

At the mouth of the Columbia River clamming is popular. Numerous old WWII fortifications dot the miles of beaches

Fort Clatsop, located in the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, is a reproduction of the fort where
the "Corps of Discovery" spent the winter of 1805-06

In downtown Astoria we visited the Columbia River Maritime
Museum. One exhibit is a lightship that once
was moored near "the bar" of the river.

Across the river are North Head Lighthouse
and the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse
(This is most westward point reached by Lewis and Clark)

Ft. Stevens was our last Oregon State Park. We then traveled inland and visited Edward in Camus before returning home
