The 26 RV parks in which we stayed ranged from open fields (Plattsburgh, NY
on left) to woodland settings (Boston area on right).
Probably the nicest site on our trip was this one next to a river in Mexico, NY
- a very peaceful, quiet place.
Along
the way we saw some colorful sights, such as the old Wyoming penitentiary
and Crazy Horse Mountain.
We
couldn't resist photographing this magnificent Victorian house.
And,
of course, we took many photos of Mt. Rushmore, just one of which is included
here.
In Plattsburgh we spent time with Cathy in both her "family" and
"professional" roles. It was wonderful to be able to fly with her on one
of her frequent routes.
We
were able to make a nostalgic trip to Lynne's grandparents' cottage near
Erie.
And
we also stopped to see two houses we had lived in in Poughkeepsie.
As an aside, our family constructed the brick patio on the left and after
25 years it is still in good shape.
We
were able to visit old friends such as Jackie Gribbons in Vermont and Rob
and Stu Tucker in Poughkeepsie.
In
Boston we had dinner with our goddaughter and her family.
And
we were able to spend several days visiting Elizabeth, Rob and Ben.
(For more family pictures taken on this trip see the "Immediate Family"
page.)
As
we traveled back across the U.S. there were many many scenes like this.
After
stopping for the day Lynne and Val relaxed.
Like
many travelers we took pictures that ranged from hokey (the fake Conestoga
wagon in an RV park) to magnificent (Turret Arch in Arches National Park).
Lynne's
driving was restricted to places such as shown below and/or quiet interstates.
The
grandeur of a thunderstorm in Utah as well as the desolation of Route 50
in Nevada were both awe-inspiring.
As
we neared the end of our trip the Fall colors were beginning to appear
