We rented a condo on the north coast of Kauai, HI (Princeville) and were joined by Edward
The Condo is spacious and overlooks the ocean and Bali Hai
Bali Hai dominates the skyline
The beach where South Pacific was filmed is very near
We visited several north shore beaches, including Hanalie Bay state park and Lumahei beach
The surf was very high all week so there were few people in the water
This is another north shore beach, Anini beach state park
Due to the strong currents wading is as close as Lynne came to being in the ocean
On the left is a view of Taro fields in Hanalie valley
We visited the Kilauea lighthouse and clambered down some very steep trails leading to beaches
We stopped at a local farmers market, finding many unusual fruits
We visited the Queen's Bath, a tide pool that people swim in when the sea is calm (obviously not when we were there)
We spent most of one day driving to Waimea and up into the canyon
The canyon is lush and beautiful. Can you see the rainbow between two peaks?
This is as close as we got to Waimea falls
On the right are the two EMDs with the falls in the background
Rain and fog wiped out the views at many locations in the canyon
We had "the rainstorm of the decade" - 17 inches in 24 hours. A window sprang a leak and Lynne did mop-up
We visited several hotels - the St. Regis (next to our condo), the Hyatt (in Poipu), and the Marriott (in Lihue)
The St. Regis has good views but is cold in feeling; The Hyatt is simply outstanding; the Marriott has a lovely pool and beach
