We returned to Death Valley for the 6th year.
The heaviest rains in recorded history had made a huge difference.
From the largest shrubs
To the tiniest of flowers
The desert was a blaze of color,
unlike anything we have seen before.
This is a view from the Borax Works parking lot towards the hills.
Desert Gold
provided a carpet of color.
Even the sages were lovely shades of gray and green.
We had a duststorm with 40+ mph winds one day so spent most of that day indoors.
Even Badwater was different. The salt flats were in evidence but there was a
layer
of water over much of the area. The previous week wind-surfing had been popular
on the 6 mile wide "Badwater Lake".
This was Yuki's first trip in an RV and she adapted quickly.
Mt. Whitney was in the background as we camped in Lone Pine - A beautiful sight
in the spring.
