Death Valley
( February, 2002 )

Return to Trips Page  Return to Home Page

During the week of February 17 we returned again to Death Valley

This was our third visit to the Valley, but our first with the driving flexibility
presented by having Hi-Ho (our dingy) - which often got very dusty on the back roads

Views along the 9 mile Artists Drive

Dantes View permits a dramatic overview of the valley 5000 feet below

It is a lengthy drive past Wildrose to the Charcoal Kilns

These impressive kilns were built by Chinese labor in 1876
to produce charcoal for processing silver ore at the Modoc Mine

As the sun sets in the evening the colors at our campsite are spectacular
